Substitute Notice of Data Breach

Sutherland Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (Sutherland) provides services to health care providers, health insurance plans and related companies. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) requires companies like Sutherland to notify potentially affected individuals of improper disclosures of protected health information (PHI).This notice is an important communication regarding a recent incident that may have affected the privacy of individuals who spoke with Sutherland associates about health plan benefits, eligibility, authorization status, claims, or related matters.

On June 27, 2024, Sutherland was notified by certain cyber hackers of unauthorized access to certain call recordings between Sutherland and its customers, including callers inquiring about health plan matters. The data accessed by the hacker from these recordings included personal and protected health information. Importantly, there is no evidence to suggest that there have been any attempts to misuse the accessed data.

In accordance with HIPAA, Sutherland notified impacted individuals by mail; however, this substitute notice is provided in the event we were unable to locate or contact all impacted individuals due to inaccurate or incomplete information. Unless you are a resident of the state of New Jersey and spoke via telephone with a Sutherland associate between June 6, 2024, and June 27, 2024, it is unlikely that you were impacted by this event.
