The importance of Digital Transformation takes center stage at IDG's Agenda 17 conference

Michael J. Miller, the former longtime editor of PC Magazine and current chief information officer for Ziff Brothers Investments, recently shared a detailed recap of his attendance at IDG’s Agenda 17 Conference for his Forward Thinking blog for PCMag.

Agenda Conference attendees heard from nearly 50 different speakers on business leadership topics focused on transforming business for today’s digital world. These experts from across a wide range of industries shared examples of how their organizations leveraged technology to transform business processes and customer experiences for the digital age. These effortless interactions have an abundance of digital complexity behind them. But behind the ease of these experiences, underlying it all, and driving it, is process.

GE Power Chief Digital Officer Ganesh Bell discussed the need for companies to “build a digital belief system” that the entire leadership team is willing to embrace. Bell noted companies should “not just ‘digital whitewash’ products and services, but instead ‘re-imagine’ them, and that this involves transforming culture, metrics, and talent.” One example is GE’s Predix software platform that has quickly become a $4 billion business line.

During another panel discussion exploring how technology impacts the hospitality industry, Marriott International Senior Vice President for Digital George Corbin explained how the hotel chain is transforming a service model. Marriott’s goal, Corbin explained, was to identify “halo moments” that are most likely to affect repeat guest stays and “accomplish them flawlessly.”

And Micron Technology CIO Todd Schultz described how his company applies data science to increase memory chip production. Unable to find a commercial solution, Micron developed its own system to address the business challenges it faces. Today, this new system is used in process automation and provides Micron with unique competitive advantages.
