Client Overview
A major Saudi oil & gas company, driving smart city transformation in alignment with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030’s focus on sustainable, tech-enabled urban development, partnered with Sutherland to create and deploy an end-to-end smart city solution.
The Challenge
Siloed Data Limits Smart City Innovation
Despite multiple existing deployments across mobility, facilities, and security domains, the client lacked a unified, scalable data architecture to power cohesive smart city use cases. They needed a partner experienced in integrating complex technology environments to support smart city, localization, and digital transformation ambitions.
Sutherland Solution
Centralized Intelligence With IoT-enabled Integration
Sutherland began by conducting a comprehensive digital maturity assessment of the client’s existing technologies, processes, and workforce capabilities.
Our team of experts then designed Smart City use cases aligned with the client’s UNSDG commitments and sustainability vision.
Building on this, we created the to-be technology landscape, seamlessly integrating more than 20 sub-systems into a unified intelligent control tower platform.
The intelligent control tower and tailored use cases enable community service operations to manage geographically diverse portfolios as a single, connected smart city.
Our IoT+ as-a-Service framework consolidates data from multiple sources to deliver measurable outcomes—boosting productivity, efficiency, safety, and profitability. It bridges IoT and operational technology (OT) with IT systems through a scalable, hyper-automated, Saudi-based cloud platform.
These deployments will be available to organizations across Saudi Arabia—spanning smart cities, manufacturing, utilities, supply chain, healthcare, retail, banking, and more. Offered via a subscription model, IoT-as-a-Service ensures accessibility for enterprises of every scale, especially small and medium businesses.
The Outcome
Rapid, Scalable Smart City Transformation Delivered
Sutherland delivered a control tower in just 120 days and deployed smart city use cases in 180 days, integrating over twenty subsystems into a unified IoT platform. The intelligent control tower enables centralized operations, predictive control, and scalable urban services delivery—positioning the client as a leader in smart city services accessible via subscription across multiple sectors.
❝We are excited for our collaboration with Sutherland through this MoU to localize smart city hyperautomation-as-a-service, which will play a role in the growth of the digital services ecosystem.❞
