Client Overview

The client is a leading manufacturer of equipment used in asphalt road building, aggregate processing and concrete production. With 16 brands and thousands of products, the company designs and manufactures equipment that supports infrastructure development worldwide. It has more than 4,000 employees with manufacturing plants across North America and other geographies.

The Challenge

manufacturing

Simplifying a Fragmented Global Technology and Operating Environment

The client was operating more than 20 legacy ERP systems supported by over 200 integrations, creating complexity across its manufacturing ecosystem. Plant operations were fragmented and lacked global visibility, while processes across finance, procurement and manufacturing were not standardized.

Quarterly SaaS updates and audit compliance also required significant manual effort. The organization needed a scalable global model that could unify operations, improve process consistency and support future plant rollouts without recreating the solution each time.

Sutherland Solution

Global Oracle Fusion Cloud Rollout Supported by Standardized Processes and Automation

manufacturing

Sutherland supported the migration of multiple ERP environments into a single global Oracle Fusion Cloud instance covering plant operations and order fulfillment.

Key activities included:

  • Implemented Oracle SaaS capabilities across Inventory Management, Order Management including GOP, Manufacturing, Transportation Management, SCM Planning, Product Lifecycle Management, Procurement, Financials, HCM and CPQ
  • Standardized product lifecycle processes covering items, item structures, CAD integrations and engineering change orders
  • Redesigned inventory processes spanning reservation, picking, packing, shipping, inventory movements, transfer orders and cycle counting
  • Integrated order management with CPQ, manufacturing, transportation management and asset management
  • Enabled demand, sales and operations planning and supply planning
  • Supported manufacturing work order planning, quality integration and work order execution
  • Implemented costing capabilities including cost rollups, scenario simulation and intercompany transfer pricing
  • Established sourcing, iProcurement and standardized purchasing processes
  • Automated regression testing, quarterly SaaS updates and audit support using CloudTestr
  • Delivered UAT, training, hypercare and SLA-driven L2, L3 and L4 application support
  • Introduced RFSMART capabilities for inventory transactions and work orders along with DocuSign integration for procurement
  • Implemented demand planning KPIs including actual versus budget, MAPE and shipment history

The Outcome

manufacturing

Greater Process Standardization, Operational Simplification and Rollout Repeatability

The transformation created a standardized global operating foundation across multiple manufacturing plants while reducing complexity in critical manufacturing processes.

The redesigned BOM and work-definition approach reduced the number of work orders by 90% through the use of logical sub-assemblies and phantoms. The global solution also achieved 80% design repeatability for pilot rollouts, creating a more reusable foundation for expansion across additional plants.

Sutherland also implemented solutions to pause order orchestration for cost updates and invoicing, automatically attach shipping documents to AR invoices for audit purposes and improve visibility through demand planning KPIs.
