The Challenge
National Health Agency Struggling With Actionable Data Insights
A government authority in the Middle East was responsible for managing and organizing the nation’s health data. Insights generated from this data were used for developing policies, regulations, and strategies to govern national health. The challenge they were grappling with was incomplete and disparate data sources that needed significant effort to generate meaningful intelligence.
There were frequent issues with data accuracy, timeliness, completeness, consistency, and uniqueness. Such disparities not only hindered the efficacy of health service delivery but introduced inefficiencies and systemic exploitation.
These manifested in various forms of wastage, including fraud and abuse of the healthcare system, which posed significant obstacles to introducing equitable healthcare standards across the country.
To overcome these hurdles, our client needed a transformation partner that could help them build a digital Data Management Office.
The Outcome
Transforming Health Services Through Enhanced Data Quality and Governance
Sutherland’s 35+ year track record diving digital transformation and optimizing critical business operations made us an ideal partner to deliver the end-to-end transformation our client sought.
Taking a truly consultative approach combined with a build-operate-transfer model, our first step was to collaborate with the client’s business teams to identify and select use cases that would improve the population’s health. Working with IT and business units was also key to source data from clinical and pharmaceutical sectors to bring these use cases to life.
Next, we designed and implemented a data warehouse to introduce a single source of truth for the client, ensuring high-quality, accurate data. This enhanced decision-making capabilities, making it easier to uncover actionable intelligence into prevalent diseases, clinical pathways, regional cost analysis, medication adherence, and the ramifications of prior medication choices.
To address the critical issues of fraud, waste, and abuse, our team developed advanced AI/ML models and anomaly detection systems. These state-of-the-art tools were essential for the preemptive identification and mitigation of inefficiencies within the system. Additionally, a business intelligence (BI) portal was created for the authority, providing access to reports and data dashboards for strategic planning.
The culmination of these efforts resulted in a dramatic improvement in population health management. Enhanced decision-making capabilities emerged, resulting in better patient outcomes and an overall improvement in efficiency achieved through superior data quality and governance. That’s digital performance unlocked and measurable results delivered!
