Engine Manufacturer Achieves 27% Savings on TCO with Sutherland’s Cloud Expertise

The Challenge

Legacy Systems Holding Back Performance

Our client is a multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and distributes engines and power generation products. With over 70,000 employees and $7 billion in revenue, they are a leader in their field.

In spite of being leaders in their space, their growth plans hit a roadblock because of their inflexible, legacy infrastructure.

Struggling to respond to business demand, Cummins’ continued expansion was being hindered by the IT overhead and exorbitant costs of managing a data center-based hosting environment.

Their outdated infrastructure also lacked scalability and agility, resulting in higher lead time to provision, which, in turn, impacted overall quality of service and led to their business expectations not being met.

The Outcome

Holistic Digital Transformation, Delivered Through an Outcome-Based Model

Leveraging our deep domain expertise, and extensive knowledge in proven optimization with both proprietary and partnered tools, we developed a transformation strategy that would unlock digital performance and deliver measurable results for the client.

To get to the heart of the issue, we began by migrating the client’s data center to hyperscale Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and deploying MS Exchange on the Equinix Datacenter platform and Office365, ensuring reliable performance for every facet of the client’s technology operations.

We further improved processes by establishing high-speed data migration via Oracle FastConnect. To ensure data security, we implemented a complete cloud security suite, complying with local government regulations. A robust disaster recovery solution was also built in to maximize resiliency.

Under Sutherland’s guidance and commitment to innovation, the client underwent full cloud transformation. They moved to a modernized IT infrastructure with the scalability and edge services required to meet increasing customer demands.

Moving to the cloud resulted in a significant reduction of operating costs and a 27% decrease in TCO. Most importantly, updating the legacy IT backdrop helped our client deliver a strong quality of service and retain its position as a market leader. That’s digital performance unlocked and measurable results delivered!
